La-la land

My two cents...

"Hollywood is wonderful. Anyone who doesn't appreciate it is either crazy or sober."
--Raymond Chandler

Welcome to the land of glitz and glamour! Los Angeles can be overwhelming, puzzling and downright weird to tourists visiting...granted I do feel the same way everytime I drive through the tourist areas like Hollyweird. But after living in Los Angeles area for over ten years now, I have learnt to appreciate the diversity in the cultures, people, nightlife, sights and sounds. Keep an open mind and try to keep your eyes shielded from the bright glare, that is showbiz hollywood....
Los Angeles takes a while to grow on you but with any place, you gotta hit the right spots and have an open mind to accept what LA has to offer.

I will do my best to talk about the typical LA attractions (Hollywood signs, theme parks etc) but most of my advice could be listed as 'off the beaten path' and be the places that are not necessary tourist spots. I try to avoid those spots understandably...esp the theme parks. I can't stand the lines and during the summer time is the worst!

LA isn't a great tourist city, compared to London, it's got a horrible transport system and isn't always family-friendly, if you're looking for places other than the theme parks. The Downtown area isn't like any other city...it's mostly work-related and empty on weekends. Santa Monica is a safe-bet if you're looking to find a place to stay. It's about 1/2 hr from everything...oh and you'll get that too...everything is about "1/2" hour away but not considering the traffic!!! Beach, mountains, desert...

Bear with me as I work on this page...if you do have any questions about LA, just email me and I'll do my best to answer those questions.

Pros:"Awesome weather, diversity, beaches, shopping"
Cons:"Smog, traffic, transport system, commuter city"
In A Nutshell:"Behind the glitz and glamor portrayed, lies a truly unique city."

I agree. However, a good place to bring friends from out of town. Don't go to Rocky Mountain Choco Factory. Terrible customer service, bad chocolates. peanuts in chocolate cluster weren't fresh!!!
