The Tree House B&B - New Zealand

The Tree House B&B

The Tree House: Taranaki - New Plymouth

For us a very special stay, because Lorraine (hostess) is a very distant relative. So you can imagine we had a lot to talk about during the cosy evenings in the sitting room

Tree House is situated in a quiet neighbourhood of New Plymouth, only 10 minutes walk to the city centre. There are plenty of trees (off course with such a name) and the spacious rooms do have a door to the garden, overlooking the city.

Herb and Lorraine offer a sumptuous breakfast as a start for your Taranaki day.

East Cape - Waihau Bay - New Zealand
Waihau Bay Homestay: East Cape - Waihau Bay

Although the name suggest only a homestay, we still had an apartment in the basement of the building. Appropriate to the East cape it is a quite simple accommodation, but smart and clean. So no problem just for one night.
We had dinner with our hosts in the dining room and so close to the sea 'off course fish'.

Suppose the view to the Ocean must be marvellous; due to the very bad weather we had we didn't see the sea at all. It was just raining cats and dogs.

Unique Qualities: One of the few accommodations along the drive around the East Cape, more or less halfway between Gisborne and Opotiki.

Address: RD 3, Opotiki (just along SH 35, Pacific Coast Highway)

our first B&B - New Zealand

our first B&B

Piners Homestay: West Coast - Greymouth

Piners Homestay has a special place in our minds, because it was our first 'B&B' experience.

Here we learned how nice it is to stay with 'locals', to hear their stories, to drink a cup of tea, coffee or a glass of wine together. Bev is an excellent cook and we enjoyed her meals very much (fresh Groper?!!!!). It is for sure Graham will tell you about his gold mining activities and show you gold nuggets or a piece of green stone.

Piners Homestay is situated a couple of km's south of Greymouth, along the highway. If you are lucky with the weather you will see a stunning sunset.

Unique Qualities: Bev's meals and breakfast.
The warmth and hospitality of our hosts.

Bradgate B&B: Taranaki - Wanganui

This bed and breakfast is situated in an old wooden house, built in 1906, and is located on the banks of the Whanganui River. The house features an impressive rimu staircase leading to the upper floor with the guest rooms.
Bradgate is on walkable distance (ten minutes) of the city centre of Wanganui.

Frances is a very pleasant and hearty host. From the moment we met, it seems if we knew each other for years. We had our breakfast in the dining room together with other guests and could share our (travel) experiences with them.

Comparison: less expensive than average

Meersburg Bed and Breakfast: Marlborough - Kenepuru Sound

Visiting New Zealand is (for us) visiting the other end of the world.
Staying at Meersburg B&B is (for everyone) staying at the end of New Zealand.

Meersburg is situated on a hill overlooking Kenepuru Sound. We reached this B&B over 'the most winding road of New Zealand', about 20 km's from the turn-off at Linkwater (between Havelock and Picton). Drive carefully !!!!

But the reward is a fanatstic stay in the middle of native forest with superb views over the sound and a private beach. We had a very spacious room with a private deck, just nice to relax and to have some afternoon sun.

We had our dinner with Erika and Eugen and they try to use their own vegetables.
The B&B is so isolated, so you should consider having dinner also 'at home'.
Erika and Eugen do speak English and German.

Unique Qualities: Superb views over Kenepuru Sound !!!

From the moment we arrived at Havenlee we felt just like at home. The warmth and hospitality of our hosts Jan and Ian was great. We had a spacious room, overlooking the garden, with all modern amenities. Next morning a 'yummie' breakfast was waiting for us, a perfect start of the day.

Havenlee Homestay is ideally situated for visiting the West Coast with Punakaiki or Cape Foulwind.

Unique Qualities: Fantastic breakfast.

Buckley Homestay: Wellington Region - Wellington

We were very lucky to find this Bed and Breakfast in Wellington. Situated 10 minutes drive from downtown in the quiet neighbourhood of Melrose. Buckley Home Stay is situated on a hill and provides spectacular views over the entrance of the Wellington Harbour with the ferries to and from the South Island. Besides there is a view on the airport without having any trouble of the noise of the planes; specially during the evening a great view.

We stayed in the self-contained guest suite with a private entrance with all modern amenities.

Marlin Apartments: Coromandel - Whitianga

When we stayed in Whitianga a couple of years ago this complex was named 'Marlin Motor Lodge'. But the main reason to stay here is still the same: the excellent location, only separated by a road from a superb beach.

Enjoy the (afternoon) sun and stunning views from the terrace in front of the beach apartments. Be sure to get one of the two beachfront apartments.
