"Deurne - gateway to the 'Peel'" Deurne by vtveen
Deurne Travel Guide: 13 reviews and 49 photos
Deurne is a little town in the south eastern part of the province of Noord-Brabant (North-Brabant). Nowadays a little town of more than 30.000 inhabitants with modern shops, lots of restaurants, some hotels and a nice market square. But it offers also some historical buildings like the St. Willibrordus Church (13th century), two castles ‘Klein Kasteel’ and ‘Groot Kasteel’ (both from the 14th century), a watermill (17 the century) and four windmills (also in the hamlets of Deurne).
Deurne is located close to the typical Dutch landscape of heath and peat moor, called ‘the Peel’. Helenaveen - one of the villages belonging to the municipality of Deurne - was one of the first settlements in ‘the Peel’, nowadays a protected area. A hidden gem, even for Dutch people, is the National Park ‘De Groote Peel’, which preserves a peat-bog that has remained partly untouched by peat cutting, which used to be extensive in this part of the province.
Deurne has a local Tourist Information Centre, located at the Market Square (www.vvvdeurne.nl).

Very interesting and informative page.
enjoyed your page of some more interesting and special spots around your country thanks.
Lovely page, Jaap. This area is quite off the beaten path. I stayed in Broekhuizen and drove through the area to Griendtsveen (unfortunately we couldn't cycle at the time).
Wonderful photos from a wonderful place.
