Nova Stoba - signposted walk ways - Sankt Gallenkirch

Nova Stoba - signposted walk ways

winter walks in the mountains

Of course it is possible to walk in the valleys and on (winter) walkways in the villages of Montafon. But nowadays there are four signposted and safe walking tracks high in the mountains of the Silvretta Montafon ski area. They are heading to a couple of viewing points with great views of the impressive mountain scenery.

Easy accessible by a gondola ride from St. Gallenkirch to Valisera:
two tracks of 1 and 2 km's.
Or from Gaschurn to Nova Stoba:
also two tracks of about 2 and 2,5 km's.

It is possible to get special 'sun passes' for a visit to one of the mountain restaurants and to make a walk.

Equipment: It is possible to rent snow shoes at the shops at the mountain stations.

Directions: Silvretta Montafon ski area.

a lot of information - Sankt Gallenkirch

a lot of information

explore Montafon

The main ski area in Montafon (St. Gallenkirch) is Silvretta Montafon (the former Silvretta Nova). But one of the pleasures of this region is the fact that your are able to visit more ski area's with the same ski pass.
The other areas are all situated within a distance of 10 km's from St. Gallenkirch.

Silvretta Montafon (St. Gallenkirch - Gaschurn):
25 lifts, 114 km's ski runs. Info www.silvrettanova.at
Schafberg Bahnen (Gargellen):
8 lifts, 47 km ski runs. Info www.gargellen.at
Golm (Tschagguns):
9 lifts, 27km ski runs. Info: www.golm.at
Hoch Joch (Schruns):
12 lifts, 40 km ski runs. Info: www.hochjoch.com

There are a couple of small area's more. All together these 8 ski area's offer 62 cableways and 222 km's of ski pistes.

There is one ski pass for all these ski area's in Montafon, varying from a day pass till a season pass. Cheaper prices for ski passes outside the main season and for children and seniors.

Welcome in Gargellen - Sankt Gallenkirch

Welcome in Gargellen

Gargellen - worth a ski visit

St. Gallenkirch is centrally located in the Montafon area and that makes it easy to go to one of the other ski mountains by car or bus.

Gargellen is one of the places we mostly visit on one of the days of our holiday. It is situated almost at the end of a narrow valley, about 8 km's from St. Gallenkirch, surrounded by impressive mountains.
The village lies on a height of more than 1400 metres and has always snow. And driving through the valley we often come from spring in St. Gallenkirch to the 'real' winter in Gargellen.

With 47 km's ski runs the ski area is not too big, but for one day it is just enough to explore some other slopes in Montafon. The most famous ski run in Gargellen is the so called 'Täli run'. Along the runs we just enjoy the have a coffee with a 'strudel' in one of these authentic rustic lodges.

Equipment: Due to the (mostly) wintry road conditions to Gargellen: never forget to take snow chains with you !!

Directions: Gargellen; turn off at the main road through Montafon, between Schruns and St. Gallenkirch.

Gondola to Silvretta Nova - Sankt Gallenkirch

Gondola to Silvretta Nova

Silvretta Montafon - large ski area

Silvretta Montafon (the former Silvretta Nova) is one of the largest ski area's in Austria with about 115 piste kilometres.
We never had any problem with snow, but nowadays there are a lot of snow-making facilities. So till spring you can return to the valley on your ski's.

The ski runs are divided in:
- 25 km 'black' runs
- 45 km 'red' runs
- 40 km 'blue' runs
Next to these ski runs are several so called 'ski routes'.

There is one ski pass for all the ski areas in Montafon.

Equipment: Off course you can bring your own equipment, but there are several shops with rental services for ski's as well as snowboards and boots.

Don't forget the snow chains for your car !!!

Directions: Austria, Vorarlberg, Montafon between St. Gallenkirch and Gaschurn.

Cross country skiing in Montafon - Sankt Gallenkirch

Cross country skiing in Montafon

also cross country skiing

Almost all the villages in the Montafon area offer also a lot of cross country skiing trails. Most of them are situated in the valleys and are only open when there is enough snow.
part of the trails are lightened.
On the website www.montafon.at is a excellent brochure with the several cross country trails

But Montafon has a great area for cross country skiing situated on a height of more than 2000 metres at the Silvretta Lake; a very scenic area surrounded by impressive mountains.

This area is accessible from the little village of Partenen by a cableway and a ´winter taxi´ which will bring you through some tunnels to the so called Bielerhöhe. For specific information about this area see: www.silvretta-bielerhoehe.at
