"Avila: like the Middle Ages" Ávila de los Caballeros by vtveen

Ávila de los Caballeros Travel Guide: 83 reviews and 207 photos

The town, about 125 km’s Northwest of Madrid, is situated on the Spanish plateau and otherwise facing the mountains of the Sierra de Gredos and the Sierra de Guadarrama. An ideal starting point to visit this unknown mountains.

The old part of Avila has an Cathedral from the14the century with a beautiful altar and some special chapels. In the cloister you can see some famous paintings. In the old town you feel like being in the Middle Ages with narrow streets and old houses and palaces. But you will find also some nice modern shops.

But the main reason to visit Avila are the walls (must see tip).
