"Aix is OK by me" Aix-en-Provence by englishchris

Aix-en-Provence Travel Guide: 331 reviews and 711 photos

For the first couple of days, I found Aix to be pretty but superficial. OK the architecture is pleasant, the markets are lovely, the people are good looking, and the place is relaxed. BUT it is lacking a certain ambience that other places in Provence have in abundance. However after a few more days, the subtle magic began to take hold, and I found myself getting to like the place more.
Its not a big place, and you can walk across the centre in less than half an hour. Although a more relaxed stroll, is better suited to the small streets of the old town, and you will certainly find yourself walking up and down the same streets and seeing the same people on a regular basis.
Its also full of young students, which is refreshing, but who all seem to be unusually quiet and chilled.
There are two things that Aix really stands out for, and that is the sheer number of cafes and restaraunts. I dont know if anybody has actually counted them, but it surely has to be a contender for the town with the highest ratio of restaraunts to citizens. I wouldnt be too surprised if you were able to eat in a different one each day for a year. There are Chinese, Brazilian, Egyptian, Vietnamese, TexMex, Italian, Libian, Indian, Lebanese, Marroccan, and of course all variations of Provencal.
The other thing that Aix seems to have in abundance is beautiful women!
So there are worse places to be.

It is always nice to read other people's take on Aix, one of my favorite places.

I love the museum photo--a work of art itself! Nice tips. Greetings from Louisiana!
