Alleppey is high up on my list of favourite Indian destinations.
The reason everyone goes there is for the backwater trips that it offers.
Consequently the town itself gets a bit neglected, which is a shame because the main MG road and its bazaar is a real bustling and enjoyable place.

Houseboat tours abound, and you can take your pick ............ BUT another plea here - please take the time to read my entry in the tourist trap section, if you want to be better informed, and open up your options.
We stayed at an idyllic resort (consisting of just 4 bamboo bungalows). And totally fell in love with the place.

Dont miss seeing the sunrise over lake Vembanad for a spellbinding experience and wonderful memories.
