The Largest Stone Circles in Europe | Looking Into the Centre of Avebury |
Mad Max brought us to Avebury after leaving Stonehenge. What can one say, only that the immensity of Avebury is truly stunning. One can't really see its size unless you sprout wings and go aloft. If you Google Avebury you can get some great shots of the Circles from the air. There are also some great explainations of what the history of this place is. Being on a tour we had the usual short time before the bus left, but we did walk around with the guide who gave us the highlights of the site. We also visited the museum and gift shop. As we departed we saw a group of people gathered in the center of the rings obviously doing some comuning with the local Druids. Stories have it that many people come here to get in touch with...whatever they want to get in touch with, as the site is supposed to have some mystical qualities.
