"15 years gone by..." Hjelmeland by knerten

It's amazing how things change. When you're living somewhere you hardly notice that things change over the years, but if you leave and then return after 15 years, now that's when things change. I lived here for 3 years back in the mid-80s.

In the late 80-s, early 90-s, many young people moved from here to the city of Stavanger for a better job, and Hjelmeland turned in a slow-moving countryside village with only old people living here. Now, they're returning, well at least they make Hjelmeland their weekend resort, arrving by boat.

Hjelmeland used to be very famous for it's chair manufacture, and in recognition of that they put up this giant chair aka "Jærstol" next to the ferry jetty.
