The Duomo and Leaning Tower of Pisa - Pisa

This was our last day in Italy . . . six weeks and we hadn't seen the Leaning Tower yet. We hopped in our trusty Peugeot and drove to Pisa. Here is the Place of Miracles with the Duomo (cathedral), Baptistry and the famous Leaning Tower.

You can really see the lean. From some angles it hardly appears to lean at all. There is a tower in Vernazzano that leans more than this one, but it is not nearly as pretty.

The setting is sublime.

This really is a miracle. The buildings are such a beautiful unit. The tower was opened to climb again in 2004 after much repair work.

There are several excellent museums nearby that are definitely worth a visit, the Museo dell ‘Opera del Duomo which has some interactive exhibits and a history of the tower (and some great views from inside the museum). There is also a museum featuring the cartoons for the frescoes in the Campo Santo.
