St. Peter's in Rome

Our First Trip to Rome!

My husband has always wanted to visit Rome and one of the big reasons was St. Peters. We were so lucky because an off-duty guide told us about a special beatification of four saints on the same day. She told us when and where to show up and we actually got seats. The rain stopped just in time for the Mass!

I think this one experience made the whole trip worth while . . . BUT we saw a lot more of a truly beautiful city.
via Giulia

Walk on via Guilia

We left the Vatican Museum one day and decided to go for a walk outside in the fresh air. We crossed a bridge and found ourselves near via Giulia so visited the church on the corner and then walked down the picturesque street to the strange fountain at the end.

There didn't seem to be any other tourists around and lots of Romans (minus togas) on the streets living their lives in this magical city.
Vittorio Emanuele II Monument

Piazza Venezia

Here is the Vittorio Emanuele II Monument on the Piazza Venezia. It's fun to walk all around it including climbing the stairs on either side. The views are fantastic and watching all the people is entertaining.

On Sunday they turn the street leading to the Colosseum into a pedestrian mall and you can walk right down the middle of the street. There are vendors and street artists . . . and gelato!! Did I mention gelato?

Pros:"Very friendly people and gorgeous scenery. Great pasta!"
Cons:"Didn't particularly care for our hotel which shall remain nameless. The people there were great but the room was not."
In A Nutshell:"Plan to spend a lot of time walking. There is so much to see!"

I'll call you "Queen of the Travelogues" because they are so terrific. We, too, were able to see the Pope, but not so close up. Your watercolors are marvelous.

Excellent atmospheric photos, capturing a sense of Rome without all the usual views.
