"Carcassonne the time my camera didn't break!" Carcassonne by Beausoleil
Carcassonne Travel Guide: 457 reviews and 1,342 photos
Update: We've now been to Carcassonne several times with a working camera. My favorite shot is still one I took years ago with the old film camera, but must admit the digital cameras are more fun. Carcassonne is a place where it's hard to take a bad picture; everything is so beautiful including castle and views.
Original Post: We visited Carcassonne the first time we went to France and I had a grand time taking pictures. Unfortunately, we were younger and I didn't have the world's best camera. We enjoyed the photos but years later when we went with our by-then adult daughter, I vowed to take some really good photos with my new camera.
Ha . . . My new camera decided not to function in Carcassonne. So sad. The next day we were in Narbonne and I bought yet another new camera and that one functioned for a week. As it turned out, we left the area by way of Narbonne so I decided to try to return the one-week-old camera. To my surprise, the camera shop person was extremely nice about it and let me choose another camera in that price range which served me well for several years until I went digital. Unfortunately, I never got decent photos of Carcassonne so here are the antique pictures!
Aha, another trip, another camera. I'll put a few new photos in a Travelogue at the end of this Introduction Page. Click on the Travelogue below for new photos. BTW, the newest camera is a Canon Powershot. I love it but am still getting used to it.
This gentleman was taking a photo of his wife-girlfriend-daughter-significant other. We never knew, but I knew a great shot when I saw it. The setting and the people are wonderfully French. Love it.
This screams "CASTLE." I've read that the renovation of Carcassonne is not particularly authentic but I don't care. It's a magnificent castle, just what you expect from a medieval castle (unless you're an expert) and we love it. This was the perfect day. The next time we visited, it was raining, lovely but a totally different experience.
- Pros:A castle fit for a movie . . . and it has been in several.
- Cons:Supposedly not an authentic renovation but it is still magnificent.
- In a nutshell:To us, this is one of the must-see attractions in France. Don't miss it.

what luck you have had with cameras! carcassone looks magnificent. im toying with trying to include it on a trip to france this year.regards from maryland.val
This all looks really idyllic! I must go back there again sometime.
Jerelis, We did get another chance. We visited Carcassonne for the 5th time a couple weeks ago and got lots of great photos. The weather cooperated as well as the camera. I'll get my restaurant Tips on as soon as we're all unpacked.
It's trully a shame that your camera didn't function in Carcassonne. There is more than enough to see and take pictures of. Hope that you will get a change again soon.
