Grenoble, a university city in the Alps

Grenoble across the Isere River

Grenoble across the Isere River
Grenoble is on both sides of the Isere River. Above the view here you can see the huge fortress on the mountain. There are cable cars up to the fortress and you see them going up and down all the time. They have clear oval carriages and look like a lot of fun.

The scene on the far side of the river is one cafe after another, a great place to sit, eat and people watch.

Apologies for the photos. I didn't yet have my digital camera.
The Stendahl Museum

Stendahl didn't like Grenoble . . .

so they built a museum honoring him. Go figure . . .

It is very interesting and certainly worth a visit.
Beaux Arts and the Citadelle

Beaux Arts and the Citadel

Here is the Beaux Arts, a really good art museum, with the Citadelle on the mountain in the background. These are two things you really should not miss.

The museum has an excellent collection of modern art and it is very accessible.
