"Montolieu, the Village of Books" Montolieu by Beausoleil

Montolieu Travel Guide: 3 reviews and 15 photos

Booklovers Heaven . . .

If you are a lover of books, as we are, Montolieu was made for you. The village is not only beautiful and in a gorgeous setting, it is full of book stores selling books in every language. There is a museum of writing in town and many other very interesting oddities.

The setting is sublime

We were staying in a gite southwest of Carcassonne and drove to Montolieu one day. The drive is beautiful, through the peaceful countryside and quaint villages. There is a nearby abbey to visit if you can tear yourself away from the bookstores.

There are several lovely shaded squares

You can park here for free, visit the church and rest after walking through the village. The fountain is very relaxing and the dappled sunlight quite romantic.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:An amazing amount to see an do in a very small village

What a marvellous find, Sally :-)) Villages like these are the true gems of our website :-) I love the church and the paintings and that wonderful restaurant with so delicious sounding food :-) Books even in other than French, that is good! And that piazza with the shady trees... a magic place :-)
