"Nice is nice in October" Nice by Beausoleil

Nice Travel Guide: 1,952 reviews and 4,451 photos

Spring or Autumn is usually lovely

Nice is very crowded during the "season" but in the autumn, it is lovely and uncrowded. There is an excellent public transportation system and fares to Nice airport are reasonable.

Just wandering through town is reason enough to go, but the seaside is lovely; the Cours Saleya markets are fun; the surrounding area is diverse and if you need more, take a train to other exciting places on the Riviera.

This was taken in mid-October. As you can see, it is still warm enough to eat outside. Walk through the town, visit the Promenade, tour the market and then settle down streetside for a leisurely lunch and some genuine people watching.

(please find the "Travelogue" heading and see the market photos)

In the summer, this is an incredibly crowded busy place. In October, there were a few people actually in the water, but it was mostly people out for a quiet walk.

If you like peace and the ocean, come in the autumn. If you like bustling crowds, come in July and August.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Lovely city, friendly people, great views, terrific market
  • Cons:construction during our stay was manic
  • In a nutshell:Quiet Nice in the Fall; Fun Nice in the summer

Delighted to read that October is a good time to visit. I will certainly try the tram and try not to end up underneath one :)

So far we haven't ended up underneath one. You should be okay. You may get some rain so take an umbrella, but in Nice, you will not often get really bad weather. I hope you get a chance to visit some of the nearby villages. They are lovely. Have a good trip.

I'm working my way through the very excellent forum replies and may ask a question or two before I make my final choices. First time to visit Nice -even though we've spent countless holidays in France - so I'm quite excited.

You have some really good photos of Nice. I love it there and thanks for that tip for the resto across from the train station. I have been stuck there at the station and it's good to know that there is a decent restaurant near there.
