My Favorite City -- Paris

by Beausoleil - last update: Oct 13, 2006

Reflections
Reflections in a restaurant window on the Ile St. Louis.

Walk across the Pont St. Louis into a much quieter Paris on a little island in the Seine. There are marvelous little shops and groceries and the best ice cream in Paris right on the island. You can sit outside at one of the corner restaurants and have a view of Notre Dame de Paris with your wonderful dinner.
Place Igor Stravinsky
My favorite fun square in Paris, the Place Igor Stravinsky by the Pompidou Center. In the Stravinsky Fountain I love to see the Niki de Saint-Phalle and Jean Tinguely aquatic sculptures . . . and the tourists taking pictures of them!

It's the perfect place to have a coffee and watch the action.
Barges on the Seine
It's fun to check out all the different boats on the Seine. There are the working barges you see here against the autumn trees. Then there are the pleasure and sightseeing boats. You can take a cruise during the day, have dinner on a cruise or take a night cruise and see Paris lit by spotlights from your boat.

If you need a ride, take the Bat-O-Bus. It's like a bus on the water and visits the main Paris sights along the Seine. If you get a day pass, you can get on and off at will. There's no commentary but you are on the water and it is really inexpensive.

Of course, the easiest way to see everything along the water is to walk!

Pros:"Paris has got to be the most beautiful and friendliest city in the world."
Cons:"I can't stay there forever!"
In A Nutshell:"You see something new every time you return. Do it often!"

Here I am again only this time studying Paris. Great info on the Transportation. Looks like the carney is the way to go. Is it good for buses too?

You've added lots of fine updates and new tips since I last looked at this page, which was on May 17, 2005. That's a lovely story about sitting out the rain in the café in the Tuileries Gardens.
