"Perpignan, the Catalan southwest of France" Perpignan by Beausoleil

Curious about weddings in France? Here are two pictures of a wedding in Perpignan we happened to see while sitting in a cafe across the street.
Couples are required to have a civil wedding and may add a church wedding if they like. This is fun for tourists because it means the wedding parties are often walking between the city hall (Hotel de Ville) and the church so you get to see all the dresses and happiness they spread on the way.
We had a wonderful lunch watching the festivities directly across from us. The architecture of the Hotel de Ville (city hall) was also fantastic, very medieval.
There is a little canal the branches off the Tet River in Perpignan. The city has landscaped it, put in flower displays and sculptures. The walks on either side are lined with shops and restaurants. It is an absolutely magical place to stop for lunch or dinner during your sightseeing day.
- Pros:Attractive, busy and fun city
- Cons:None that we saw
- In a nutshell:Close to many Cathar sites . . . interesting

are the churches more spanish influenced as well?
is it one of those places that you really need a car to see it well?
We had a car but didn't use it in town. We parked and walked or took the bus in the city. Unless you're spending a few days, you can walk to all the major sights. If you want to see the area, there is good train service.
Brings back memories of my visits to Perpignan many years ago.
