Sleeping Beauty's Castle

by Beausoleil - last update: Jun 24, 2007

Chateau Usse

Chateau Usse
In the tiny picture-perfect village of Rigne-Usse is the magical Sleeping Beauty Castle, Chateau Usse. You must take a guided tour to enter and admittedly, the Sleeping Beauty section is very touristy, but the castle itself, the outbuildings and the magnificent view of the river Indre are well worth the tour.

There is an ice cream parlor-sandwich shop combo across the street if you don't want to take time for a full French meal. There is also a wonderful assortment of hunting horns in the carriage house if you peek into it.
Rigny-Usse

There is a town.

The little town of Rigny-Usse is certainly worth a walk. The chateau is the highlight but as you can see, Rigny is a lovely little village right on the river. It's particularly pretty when the flowers are blooming which is much of the year.

View from the balcony

As you wait for your tour, you can enjoy the views both of the chateau and from the balcony.

Pros:"Lovely little village, stunning chateau"
Cons:"The Sleeping Beauty motif is a bit overdone, but fun for kids."
In A Nutshell:"Anyone who enjoys fairy tales and castles should visit Usse."

I have often visited this region but though I always heard about Rigny Ussé, always failed to visit. Thank you for sharing its nice architecture!
