A view of the village looking over the countryside

We discovered it is pretty easy to get lost in the Bordeaux countryside. You turn down a little country road and you are surrounded by vines. All vines tend to look alike and you really can't see over them. We couldn't find the chateau where we were staying and finally stopped in a small town at an open market to ask directions. The person at the market didn't know where it was either and directed us to the nearby bakery. Fortunately, the lady selling bread did know where it was . . . although she didn't speak English. She repeated the directions several times until we had them memorized and we started our search again. Drove right to it! Great directions and excellent bread.

A hill town in the Bordeaux region!

You can look down into the village square and will eventually walk there as you taste your way down hill. There is an amazing church in St. Emilion that is literally carved out of the inside of the hill. It is a troglodyte church. Don't miss it.

A fun art exhibit

Wandering around the town completely lost, we happened upon a local art exhibition. Many of the artists were there and were happy to talk about their work. It was great fun and a good way to meet people.

There are also ruins you can visit when you tire of wine tasting. Hm, do people tire of wine tasting?

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Very picturesque village with excellent wines
  • Cons:Can be a tad crowded in season. Go out of season!
  • In a nutshell:Friendly, picturesque and fun.

Wine.... tomorrow! The people seem nice and it is always good to see that "communication" works despite different languages :-)

Thank you for your recommendations. Your recommendations helped my Wife and I decide to see St. Emillion and we had a wonderful time. We will always think fondly of our visit and have you to thank for it. Thank you!
