Cook Islands

Rarotonga

We spent almost four weeks on this tiny island. The best part about the islands are the people. I have never been to a place were all the people from small children, teenagers to adults made you feel so welcome.

Snorkeling and swimming were great in the lagoon but watch out for the rockfish, the ones that sting. Fruits of Rarotonga and Black Rock were the best areas. Saw a tremendous amount and variety of fish. It was great.

We stayed at the Sunrise Beach Bungalows and the Reefcomber and loved it. You can't go wrong in the Cook Islands.

You most likely will rent a scooter and driving at night can be a real problem with the bugs, so I recommend taking a pair of clear safety glasses to wear at night. Then you only have to pick the bugs off your glasses instead of out of your eyes.

Aitutaki

This island is a must if you are in the Cooks. A mere speck of sand in the Pacific Ocean, but what a jewel. We stayed at the Paradise Cove and Ranginui's Retreat which were just wonderful. Aitutaki makes Rarotonga seem like Grand Central Station. The Bishop Cruise and Wet and Wild tours took us to One Foot Island, Heaven On Earth and a great snorkeling spot. Then we stopped for a wonderful BBQ lunch. Wrap your passport up in a plastic bag and take it along to get it stamped on One Foot Island.

Take books as this is the ultimate relax spot. Get a table at Samade's for lunch over looking the lagoon and when your done take a few steps and you can swim in the lagoon or lay on the beach. They also have a great Island Night.

ATM's are available and most places take credit cards. Don't pass by the little resturants that are in people's homes. The company is fabulous and the food is great.
