Paris Transportation

Transportation: Charles de Gaul Airport

Getting TO/AROUND: For a city that ranks as one of the top destinations in the whole world, they sure have a really crappy airport. I'm talking bad... I still can't believe I would see an airport of this quality from such a rich country like France. I wish I took a picture... if you've never been there, you would take a look at the airport and not believe that its Paris' main airport.

In the end though, its an airport, you'll get through it and get to your destination.

    RER (Regional Trains): From CDG

Getting TO/AROUND: The RER is how me and my friends got from CDG to central Paris. Its pretty simple, you just buy your ticket, follow the signs and get on the train. I think its around 8 Euros for a one way trip. My advice: by a Paris Visite pass... we were there for only one night, and so we bought a 2 day Paris Visite pass for around 25 Euros I think. The great thing about it is that it also works for the Metro.

    Métro: Easy to use
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • 'Mode': AROUND
    Category: Subway/Metro
Getting TO/AROUND: Just like the London Underground, the Paris Metro is simple to use. What makes it simpler than the London Underground is that the French just assigned the various Metro lines with just numbers unlike the English who assigned the different Underground lines with names. Its pretty rare I think for you to go the wrong way, maps are clearly displayed and it shows you which way the train is going.

In rush hour, the metro can be quite unpleasant though. I now know that its like to be a human sardine. I had people pressed up on all sides of me and I had to reach around this lady just so I could hold onto the pole to keep myself from falling. Naturally when you have that many people crammed in a tight space with poor ventilation, its gonna smell of nasty body odor.

Busses: Hop all you want baby!

Getting TO/AROUND: Best ways to see all the highlights of Paris is to take one of those hop on hop off bus tours. That way you don't get stuck underground in the smelly Metro. And if you are new in Paris its great cos it just stops at all the touristy areas and if you want to hop off... well you hop off... see the attraction, spend your hard earned Euros and then when you're done... go to the bus stop and wait for the next hop on hop off bus and it will take you to the next place. They give you these cheap earphones so that you can listen to a recording in both Francais and in English about the various points of interest that you pass by.

Great stuff - very honest and accurate, and your sense of humour comes through so well(essential in Paris - I needed a long rest after four days there!). I really enjoyed reading your pages! Ali
