Many people I've talked to said they preferred Yazd to anywhere else in Iran. It is quite a unique place because of it's location on the edge of the desert and the old entrance to the bazar is quite spectacular.
I travelled to Yazd stayed in 2002 when a place in the middle of the bazaar had just opened. It catered to package tourists but had a $5 dorm (mats on the floor) in the basement. Because it was in the basement it was a bit cool which made it easy to sleep. Unfortunately I forget the name, but I have seen business cards from it pasted into guest-books since. Rooms are set around a big caravanserai. I would be surprised if it was not more expensive now. Some people swear by the Aria Hotel but it sounds a bit sketchy. Most people I have talked to seem to have stayed in a place which faces the big old entrance to the bazaar, called the Amir Chakhmaq Complex (the thing you see on postcards of Yazd). |
