Karvina lies approximately 20 kms from Ostrava, on the border with Poland; right in the city there are two border check-points, that’s also why the Poles compose numerous minority. The discovery of black coal started to influence the expansion of the city in the middle of 18th century eminently, however these days it is rather green than black, as well as Ostrava. |

Well-known is the spa area (Darkov) which gained international „golden star“ for quality. Its treatment of the locomotive apparatus and neurological diseases are the most successful in the Czech Republic. Furthermore, there is a numerous group of spa guests who perceives curative stay as the time for rest and relaxation. |
One of the most famous landmarks is the Frystat castle and its park. Formerly was Frystat separate town, now it is the part of Karvina and the caste belongs to cultural monuments. |
