Egypt - a trip in the heart of mythology

by Muya - last update: Jul 7, 2005

The peaceful and centennial Nile River
When we got back to Brussels, I asked one of our trip companions how he felt about being back home, and he said “Well, you know, it is quite hard because half of my heart remains in Cairo”. Well actually, this sums up my feelings about Egypt too... I have always wanted to visit the country of the pharaohs, as far as I can remember, and when I finally got to go there, I wasn’t deceived at all. The beauty of the landscapes along the Nile... the magic of the temples... everything almost perfectly corresponded to what I had imagined. Representing myself the sumptuous ceremonies that were held in ancient Egypt, walking the steps of the priests... an extraordinary feeling !
Our trip in Egypt
As the country is not always very safe, we chose not to go by ourselves and took a 6-days tour with a group, which included a 3-days cruise on the Nile, a 3-days stay in Cairo, and all the visits of course. We were very satisfied with our touroperator, but of course choosing such a formula clearly restricts your freetimes, and there are many many things you don’t have the time to visit... But we did a lot anyway, as much as we could in six days : the temple of Karnak in Louxor, the Valley of the Kings, the Valley of the Queens, Idfu, Kom Ombo, Asswan and the temple of Philae, Abu Simbel, and Cairo and its pyramids...I am totally happy with all I saw, really... I know that some day I’ll go back and see more...definitely ! Egypt is not a country you can easily forget ...
You can follow the trip we made on the map. I will describe it in my travel tips following that order.
Pages under construction....
Keep an eye, I'm still working on it :-)
