"Finland - The Country with the Thousand Lakes" Finland by Muya

After Stockholm and a stop in Åland, we finally arrived in Finland, where we stayed with our friend Alain in Turku. During our stay, we had the opportunity to visit Naantali, Rauma, and Helsinki before going back to Stockholm.
I must say that this first impression on the country made me want to go back some day and visit Lapland which seems to be so beautiful. And the Arctic circle of course ... I would love to see the northern lights (aurora borealis) or the midnight sun. And why not paying a visit to th Santa Claus and his red-nosed deer Rudolf in Rovaniemi ?
Finland is a sparsely populated country with about 5 millions of inhabitants spread across the +/-338 000 km2. Of course, water represents 10% of this nothernmost country of Europe . People refer to Finland as the "thousand lakes country", but this is actually a wrong belief... Finland counts 187 888 lakes covering 1/4 of the center of the country.
It also has two official languages, Finnish and Swedish, and some cities have a bilingual status (Helsinki/Helsingsfors, Turku/Åbo)
