Waterloo, "morne plaine" … those are the words Victor Hugo used to describe this town lying right in the countryside of the Brabant Wallon, only twenty minutes away from Brussels. The reason why this tiny city is so well-known is of course the famous battle of the same name that took place there in 1815, evoking prestigious names such as Napoleon, Wellington, Ney, Cambronne...

The battle of Waterloo actually was one of the biggest battles in Europe’s history, and the symbol of Napoleon’s fall. It marked the end of confrontations between Europe and France and opended the way to an new era of peace in Europe.
