THE ARCHIPELAGO OF THE AZORES These volcanic islands [Santa Maria, São Miguel, Terceira, Graciosa, São Jorge, Pico, Faial, Flores and Corvo], with a population of about 240.000, were discovered by Portuguese in the XV century.
