THE ARCHIPELAGO OF THE AZORES

These volcanic islands [Santa Maria, São Miguel, Terceira, Graciosa, São Jorge, Pico, Faial, Flores and Corvo], with a population of about 240.000, were discovered by Portuguese in the XV century.

Lagoa das Sete Cidades

São Miguel, with 747km2 and 131.510 inhabitants, is the largest Island of the Azores.

Caldeira

All islands are connected by plane, some of them are also served by a regular maritime line all year round. Ferry connections are available in summer.

Todas as ilhas se encontram ligadas por avião, algumas delas são ainda servidas por ligação marítima regular durante todo o ano. No verão são disponibilizadas ligações por ferribote.

Ponta Delgada

Airlines SATA and TAP connect the Islands to the mainland Portugal and to the world. charters companies operate to São Miguel from Northern Europe. The German airline Air Berlin connects Ponta Delgada to Nuremberg.

As companhias aéreas SATA e TAP ligam as ilhas a Portugal continental e ao estrangeiro. Companhia fretadas viajam para São Miguel do Norte da Europa. A companhia aérea alemã Air Berlin liga Ponta Delgada a Nuremberga.

Angra do Heroísmo

Ponta Delgada is the main urban centre of the archipelago, and Angra do Heroísmo is World Heritage of UNESCO since 1983.

Lagoa Funda

Flores is the most occidental Island and, in my opinion, due to its maar lakes and waterfalls, is the most beautiful one of the whole archipelago.

Flores é a ilha mais ocidental e, na minha opinião, devido aos seus lagos do tipo maar e cascatas, é a mais bonita de todo o arquipélago.

Ferraria

The sea water temperature in summer is about 23º C. But it is very hot in Ferraria.

A temperatura da água do mar no verão ronda os 23º C, mas é muito quente na Ferraria.

hi looks beautiful - I have never heard of the Azores until just a few years ago and I used to read my guidebooks for Europe I thought from cover to cover! when one of our Consutlants had said he was heading for a couple of weeks. I had thought I might be here this month from visiting Madeira but I stayed longer in Morocco - at least here with VT we can look and dream in one anothers photos and write-ups!
