Take The Fan-Tail Boats To Railay Beach...

by ChrisRJ - last update: Aug 4, 2004

The Scenery

Fan-Tail Boat On East Railay Beach
If you head as far as Ao Nang or Krabi itself don't stop there. A 20 minute ride on a fan-tail boat, which is a blast in itself, will drop you in a place that you'd wish you would have come to first...Railay Beach.

It is actually a pennisula as opposed to an island, but you can only get there by boat.

The boat will drop you either on the West or East beach and you may well have to do a beach landing that drops you with your backpack on into knee or waist deep water. It's a great way to arrive.

There are no vehicles here and you soon recognize every face due to the limited size of the place. There are plenty of places to eat and drink or watch a movie if you feel like it. There's also numerous internet computers although if you need to get money out of the ATM make sure you do it before you leave the mainland.
Trekking To The Lagoon

Trekking

There's a great afternoon trek to this tidal lagoon that will give you great photo opportunities, a decent workout and the need to hit the laundry, due to the red clay mud that you will likely be covered in. Also make sure that you have some good footwear as we were witness to numerous pairs of deceased flip-flops while we were on the trip there.

Rock Climbing

Railay is all about rock climbing and whether you're an experienced climber or just keen on trying something new, you won't be disappointed.

Avid climbers bring their own gear, but for those without equipment or experience can rent whatever they need from one of the climb shops, along with instruction to help them enjoy their time on the rocks.
