Central Park: Central Park Zoo
  • Tip Rating:
  • Delightful retreat from the city - one of the best zoos I have visited with lots of educational programmes and fantastic animals in as natural a setting as is possible in captivity. The polar bears are great viewed through the glass in their temperature controlled environment - on the very hot day we visited I envied their icy habitat.New York New York I must return

    Chinatown: Chop Sticks anyone!!
  • Tip Rating:
  • China Town is a bit run down (excuse the pun) we visited with a tour on a Sunday & most places were shut but we did get to see inside one of the many temples. China town has a lot of nteresting old buildings as well as lots & lots of restaurants & shops.

Empire State Building: Every tourist goes up up up
  • Tip Rating:
  • New York City Empire State Building
  • Waiting for the elevator
  • by scottishvisitor
  • Send Photo to a Friend
  • After waiting in line to go up the Empire State Building & reading the information on the notices outside the elevators then finally stepping inside = the speed this elevator goes up is somewhat hair raising
Kept thinking "What if the cables snap - help" Well worth the trip for the views from the top.

St Patrick's Cathedral: St. Patricks Cathedral
  • Tip Rating:
  • The original St. Patrick's Cathedral was designed by the architect James Renwick. Construction started in 1859 and the estimated time of construction work was 8 years - however the work was delayed by the interruption of the Civil war. I can only guess at the architects feeling on todays building sandwiched between high risers. There was a wedding in progress when we visited so no internal photography but it really is stunning inside.

Madison Square Park: Lovely tree lined avenue
  • Tip Rating:
  • Walking down Madison Avenue was a delight on a sunny Sunday morning because NYC is very much a working city there were very few people about. It really is a lovely avenue for a quiet stroll along its leafy tree lined streets

Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island: Statue of Liberty
  • Tip Rating:
  • I must apologise for the photo - I was too excited at seeing this great landmark to be bothered with a camera.
On visiting Ellis Island my emotions overtook me ------------- stairway of seperation --------------ny son going one way and me the other.

So sad to read of mass emigration from so many countries = but so many success stories for a future generation.
