Scheffau am Wilden Kaiser Travel Guide: 28 reviews and 49 photos
We saw little of Scheffau the smallest of the villages in the Going Valley our main purpose on a beautiful Summer's day was to see the magical Hintersteinersee - a long name whose translation was lost to me :) I dd find out hinter means behind and see means lake! If anyone can enlighten me on the middle = steiner I would greatly appreciate the complete translation. Simply in English for me a place of great natural beauty and a day spent completely in my element.

The lake does look magical and so beautiful. I enjoyed your tips and photographs.
Joan, this is a very nice little page on beautiful Scheffau am Wilden Kaiser! It looks like a very relaxing spot, especially now that winter is upon us once again! May you have a Happy New Year and safe travels in 2010.
What a lovely spot this is. I loved your explanation of the Magic Lake legend. Photos are excellent. And packing list tip is handy.
Hintersteinersee seems a natural place of beauty. I can see why you savored your time there....
Excellent forest picture
"Stein" means stone, but the "steiner" in Hintersteinersee refers to a local family. The Steiners also have a mountain meadow named after them. Jakob Steiner rents to vacationers who want to live on a farm and teaches/coaches skiing.
This Hintersteinersee looks a very peaceful place to spend a few days. My knowledge of German is limited but I feel it should mean something like "the lake behind (or among) the rocks"
What a beaut spot to enjoy the sun and a swim!
Another fabulous page of yours. I was once here for skiing in winter time and remember that they have one of the largest skiing areas.
Your photos capture the tranquility of the lake-shore (away from the families!) so well - I felt relaved just sharing this pretty spot "virtually" with you
