Getting TO/AROUND: We drove from Cruden Bay along the coast road A96 which takes you to Elgin. From here take the A9 bypassing Inverness to cross the Kessock Bridge. Turning left at the roundabout at Tore then takes you onto the A835 on the road to Ullapool. Please take careful note of the overhead road signs, they tell you well in advance of snow closures and ferry cancellations. We did notice on our frequent travels around Ross-shire the signs warned of a high risk of deer on the roads the only deer we saw were indeed close to the road but luckily not on it. The roads in Ross-shire are good two laned roads not busy at least not when we were there you can drive at your own pace with lots of off road parking at the perfect spots. I have included a link to viamichelin their maps guide you around here perfectly.

Getting TO/AROUND: The Caledonian Macbrayne ferries sail between Ullapool and Stornoway Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. There are two sailings per day departing Ullapool 10.30 and 17.15 return times from Stornoway are the same. The ferry takes around 2hours 40 minutes and sails from Monday to Saturday. Please note there are no SUNDAY sailings. In high season June to August they have a night sail leaving Ullapool 22.00 arriving at Lewis 00.45 Prices for driver and all passengers are £15.30 each To take your car is an extra £75.00 and dogs travel free. Beside the ferry terminal you will find the bus station - City Link buses operate a link taking travelers onward to Inverness telephone 08705 505050 for more information the bus is perfectly timed for all ferry arrivals and departures.

The tumbling water and the tumbling snow in Altan Dhub is spectacular. Have not seen like this before. Thanks Joan for sharing.

Ys, both Ullapool and Inverness are really nice; I still have at least two more pages to add but I don't know when, I added Santiago de C., Malta..., and next Monday I'll begin a new trip for 5 days. I'll have a look at your pages
