Easter was early this year and the snow was late. We thought of visting Easter Ross but Wester Ross held the wild hightlands and the lovely quiet villages of Ullapool and Gairloch. Such a large and remote but perfectly accessable area to explore this was the perfect spot to rewind, relax and enjoy the great outdoors. We didn't mind the frequent snow showers either most fell when we were travelling around. So don't let the weather put you off.
- Pros:Scenery to keep you dreaming of a return
- Cons:You can't guarantee sunshine but the weather just adds to the experience
- In a nutshell:Go Wild in the Highlands

The area looks remote and appealing to go and see one day. You did a nice job of describing the sites and scenery, enhanced by good photos
The snow on the peaks looks so beautiful. Nothing like a snow covered cap! I enjoyed the tour of this lovely place!
Hi Joan! Never heard of Ullapool but it does look gorgeous...I like those snowcapped mountains, Norman :)
Excellent information! Nice job
The tumbling water and the tumbling snow in Altan Dhub is spectacular. Have not seen like this before. Thanks Joan for sharing.
Ys, both Ullapool and Inverness are really nice; I still have at least two more pages to add but I don't know when, I added Santiago de C., Malta..., and next Monday I'll begin a new trip for 5 days. I'll have a look at your pages
Oh Joan, your tips and pics transported me back in time to my teenage years, when our family holidays were spent camping in Ullapool. I really must go back there again soon! Best wishes, Sue X
Wonderful landscapes in Ullapool . Your pictures are extraordinary!
Evocative writing & photos Joan. I particularly liked your intro photo & "Where the Boats come and go" in Gairloch. £5 for 2 coffees is quite normal in London ;))
2009? We may have 2 Euro Meetings!
