Skyline Gondola, Restaurant and Luge.: GONDOLA RIDE
  • Tip Rating:
  • A must in Queenstown is to take the gondola up to the top of the mountains to get a panoramic view of the town. It's located alongside a large lake surrounded by the Remarkables mountain range -- very pretty (although Rotorua's gondola ride offers more beautiful view).

There is a cafe on the top with a wonderful vista over the town and lake. They also have bungy jumping, tandem para-gliding and luge from up there.

Lake Wakatipu: LEISURELY WALK AROUND THE LAKE SHORE
  • Tip Rating:
  • Lake Wakatipu comes alive in summer. The best way to enjoy it is by taking a leisurely walk around its shore. Wander around the Steamer Wharf at the end of Shotover Street and you will be rewarded by breathtaking view of the Remarkables and Lake Wakatipu.

    Things To Do: 4WD TOUR
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • For a difference experience, join Safari of The Rings tour run by Nomad Safaris. It is a half-day guided tour, took about 4 hours, cost NZ$120 including hotel pick-up and drop-off and refreshment.

They also run tours to Skipper Canyon and Macetown.

See my SAFARI OF THE RINGS travelodge for details.

    Milford Sound: MILFORD SOUND
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Most people who stay in Queenstown take the optional day-trip tour to the famous Milford Sound.

Book in advance the luxurious Great Sights coach (about NZ$180) which will take you there. It's a long drive but the way to the Sound is haft the experience. You will pass the beautiful valleys, lakes and creeks along the way.

Board the famous Red Boat (about NZ$60) to see the Sound up close and personal. The Milford Sound is serene and dramatic.

See my MILFORD SOUND travelodge for more details about the beauty of this area.

    Things To Do: DOUBTFUL SOUND
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • The Real Journey offers full-day trip to the Doubtful Sound, including a tour of the Manapouri Power Station (NZ$262 excluding lunch).

Inccessible by road, Doubtful Sound's 100km waterway is remote and wild; gives the mystical feelings. It's a home to bottlenose dolphins, Fiordland crested penguins and seals.

See my DOUBTFUL SOUND travelodge for more details about the area.
