I just spoke with a friend in Rome who asked how I was managing on my return. After explaining to him I was having a difficult time adjusting to my current reality, he laughed told me there is a commercial for an Italian cruise line they run there which reminded him of me. Apparently, the commercial shows a woman on her back porch sobbing while flashes of her holiday shoot across the screen as she rocks herself saying, I have to pull myself together, I just have pull myself together!
Each time I've gone to Italy the harder it's been for me when I return home. Believe me I had many reoccurring thoughts/fantasies of just not getting back on that plane and then the practical Midwest thinking kicks in. I know I am not alone here when I say that I fall more in love and respect with the people, culture, and different pace in each city. |

Lacristina Sat Jun 16, 2007 01:24 UTC How wonderful! I'm headed back to Rome in July, but will spend most of my time elsewhere in Italy and Spain. Any new restaurants you'd recommend? | gmg61 Fri Aug 18, 2006 23:40 UTC I am sure you cook them perfectly! But to eat them in Rome gives them a different taste...:) | BeatChick Thu May 25, 2006 02:14 UTC "made my eyes roll back with pleasure and my toes curl..." Now you just CAN'T get a better rec for a resto than THAT!! That's funny, I'm from California & now live in the midwest. :D Great Roma page, Eileen! | deecat Sat Mar 11, 2006 03:14 UTC I totally identify with that feeling of not wanting to leave Italy. When I'm there, I feel that I am "home"...we rented an apartment for 68 days on one of our trips to Italy; I could not stop crying when we had to say good-bye. Great information. |
