They will always suggested to bring you to some other temple which is very famous in the local community, or bring you to the Gem vendor for about 2 hours for free.

At Least Do This: Never Never believe them. Although the trick has been using for years, it is still work, I just heard that tourist from Malaysia are cheated and he published in Malaysia newspaper.

The authority can't do much on this, because they never force you, they sell you real gem but in much higher price. This is nothing illegal.

Just beware, another reminder, they are not only in Grand Palace, they are everywhere, Railway Station, Shopping arcade etc. They looks very professional and sincere.
Alternative: Smile to them politely, say no to them firmly, and go directly to the entrance of Grand Palace check with the counter.

Do it yourself, go to the ticket counter of Grand Palace by yourself and ask the ticket counter personally, you'll find out yourself.

My wife and her sister just visited Erawan Shrine recently. There a lot of flower seller surrounding and asking tourist to offer flower to Buddha, with the heart of sincerity, my wife is happy to offer flower to the Buddha and ask what is the price, the seller won't say anything, just give everything to my wife, at the end, he just tell her that it cost 1000 baht.

My wife refused to pay and give back the flower, however the whole group of flower seller start making noise and tell them that the Buddha will kill them if they don't buy.

They are frighten and never experience it. They end up paid 1000 Baht from each of them to escape from the place

I wasn't there when it happened, or I'll ask don't the Buddha cut their tongue if they tell lies? My my, it just happen right outside the holy place.
