Shopping centres, Temples and Pollution!!

by Nemoa - last update: Dec 10, 2005

The Shopping

MBK Shopping centre
One of my faves of Bangkok is as usual the shopping (Yeah!).

I had great expectations about the street markets but after visiting them I got to the conclusion that they were not as good as in Hong Kong (Sorry fellows out there who undoubtedly will love streeet-market-shopping-in-BKoK but this is all about opinions I believe!).

Shopping centres though, are GOOD. I loved MBK, just like your little street market but without the pimps, touts, nasty smells and other delicacies of the street market. Cheaper too! Very advisable to visit.
Wat Phra Kaeo

The Temples

Fantastic religious art and architecture in this city.
Do not miss the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaeo and Wat Pho. Those two are must sees.

The art is so colorful and harmonious that sometimes manages to put a bit to shame the Western art.

Whether you are interested in the religious meaning of the art or more just into the picturesque side of it you will love it.
And it wasn ot even the peak hour!!!

And Pollution...

I have never been to such a smelly place.

The amount of pollution coming from cars is overwhelming, but in my opinion not as much as the one coming from street food stalls. If anybody knows for sure, please, address me an email to let me know what kind of oil they use to cook because I am really intrigued. They stink as much as you can imagine, and I never dared to try anything cooked in those stalls as only the smell as you pass next to them made me choke.

Roaches are another delicacy you can encounter as you walk, I was startled everytime I stepped on something crunchy.

Really guys, whomever is the mayor of the city, he needs a call of attention to cleanliness and pollution control in this city.

Pros:"Very good food, very good prices, very good sights to see."
Cons:"Pollution, smells and touts."
In A Nutshell:"Open up your eyes and cover up your nose !! For your own good, my friend."
