Langkawi which means Reddish Brown Eagle in the Malay language is nestled on the Thai-Malaysian sea border and is the main island from a cluster of 99 islands during high tide and more than 104 islands in low tide.
Legend has it that Langkawi used to be the habitat of spirits and classical Malay literature Hikayat Merong Maha Wangsa states that Garuda, the mythological giant eagle rested in these islands.

Well..the whole state, Kedah Darul Aman. It's known as the rice bowl of Malaysia. It is the biggest rice production for the country. Langkawi is mainly for tourism. But when you move around the island you can still see the padi fields.

The best way to see Langkawi Island is by renting a car. It makes it easier to move around especially at night. It's very affordable for one car. Choose from Malaysian car like, Proton Wira, Proton Iswara or even Kancil(the smallest car for small Malaysian people). Other car like Nissan Sunny or Honda also available. Basically you can find any car at cheap rate. Better still if you go low season (no school or public holiday in Malaysia) the car is even cheaper.
Rental places you can find from the Kuah jetty if you arrive by ferry and at the airport counter if you take plane.
