This isn't going to be a restaurant tip - more a general guide to food and drink in Crete.
If you have not eaten Greek food before I strongly advise going to a restaurant where you can see a lot of local Greek people hanging out and try a meze, a selection of lots of little dishes, like taramasalata, dolmades (stuffed vine leaves), meatballs, calamari (squid). In less touristy places, and in the mountains, a drink will often comes with a mini-meze, of what is fresh and available, including olives, beans, bread, tomato.
