"From tiny detail to grand skyline: lovely Sevilla" Sevilla by Spincat
Sevilla Travel Guide: 2,207 reviews and 5,567 photos
I chose this picture: light across the floor of the Alcazar palace, because it captures something of the mysterious beauty of this extraordinary city. As you walk around Sevilla, the fantastical buildings appear over other amazing confections of domes, minarets and spires.
Sevilla is in the 'bread oven' of Spain - Andalucia. We came here as a family party: the oldest aged 80 and the youngest 7. This was in February, and the weather was mostly very warm and sunny; goodness knows what the heat is like in July! The city is set on the banks of the Guadalquivir, a famous river that has slowly silted up.
Like many cities Sevilla has a grand legend to explain its origins: it is said that Hercules founded Sevilla. For me the city has romantic and dramatic associations - Carmen, Don Juan, the processions of Semana Santa - and the colour and the sights and the exhuberant life style lived up to my expectations.
I'll remember Sevilla for exquisite detail: the ironwork, paving stones, tiles, glass; for its colours: ochres, azure and orange; for its fabulous plants and gardens.
From cold London, this place had an extraordinary warmth and exhuberance - everywhere seemed to be laughing, singing, talking into the early hours.

You were right, I loved Sevilla, it was the highlight of my tour. The architecture was so beautiful, loved the Plaza Espana and the Alcazar was awesome, I felt very safe walking around the city there and it was easy to find my way around.- thanks, Tony
Happy belated birthday, Mrs Spincat :-) Wandered around your Sevilla and am now very hungry for some tapas !!
Excellent descriptions on the restaurants and hotel. The moorish style is truly elegant. Cheers, SL
Thanks for this tip. Will be staying here in Feb next year whilst in a school for the week. Was booked for me so am pleased with their choice. Will ask for room 212!
I sure do wish I had eaten where you did - we were uniformly disappointed with the cuisine here. Nice photos of the gardens.
Hello Sarah :-) I'm going for tapas tonight, in a restaurant called "Seville's", so I thought I'd read your tips & get my appetite going.. haha! Lovely page... thanks for sharing :-) Jess
