The great thing about Virtual Tourist is that it provides a safe outlet for that urge to tie your guest to the sofa while you bore them with your holiday snaps.
After nearly 2 years on VT, I have noticed a tendency in myself to adopt a relentlessly bright and breezy, if not bossy, tone when writing tips, but my style doesn't always reflect my mood at the time! After all, one does sometimes get tired: The Acropolis? The Niagara Falls? The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World? (maybe in the morning... ) Anyway, Four things we never did in Nafplio and Top ASBO pub, Tenby reflect this new realism. Your favourite bar or pub is a new section - love to here your views. Check it out here |
| | Spincat has only been travelling around her South East London manor for the last year; my last trip was to Llanthony Abbey in the Brecon Beacons National Park This is a secret place, a hotel in a ruined abbey, set in a remote and lovely valley far away in the Black Mountains of Wales. |
| | Crete is a place I'll keep returning to, as long as I can hobble or hop. I've been there 8 times - will take me lifetime to get to know the place. That means my tips will take lifetime too... but meanwhile, I hope you will find something useful for your journey here. I have a seperate short section covering the Cretan city of Rethymnon |
| | Toulouse
My Toulouse pages cover spectacular cave art in the Pyranees, and a spectacular city. |
| | Istanbul
I am not a good traveller. Came back from Istanbul earlier this year and straight away went down with flu. Read about how I got it, living the high life on the Bosphoros. I've been doing some travelling around my own counry ever since then, but Istanbul got under my skin and I kep thinking about going back. For information on some off beat UK destinations :- Dungeness in Kent, ugly and beautiful at the same time, a stretch of wild shingle and an artists' colony all in the shadow of a nuclear power station; Cerne Abbas the little village with the big giant Glastonbury A common question on VT forum is "What makes a good day out or an overnight trip for someone based in London?" So I am building an album that covers days out of this kind - you'll find this at this bottom of this page. |
