"SRAVANBELAGOLA A BEAUTIFUL LAND" Shravanabelagola by pravdr

Shravanabelagola Travel Guide: 5 reviews and 45 photos

nestled in beautiful countryside are historic sites which date back to atleast 2 centuries.the region between bangalore and hassan is not as densely inhabited as the bangalore mysore stretch.
the climate is salubrious and the entire region is located on the deccan plateau with an average altitude of 1000m.summers are not too harsh and winters not too cold.
entire region is dotted with picture perfect villages schoools with open grounds and taluka government offices.
small lakes and ponds add fine touches of surprise and you cant but admire nature at its moderate best.
as you leave neelmangala and the accompanying mad traffic behind. you get a beautiful stretch.

a beautiful stretch of tarmac unwinds like a ribbon in front of you. twisting and turning but never too sharply.foilage on either side and the villages peeking at you as you zoom past makes a beautiful picture.
the entire area is dotted with small lakes ponds and stretches of green.
the route we took was as follows.
bangalore to nelmangala 29 kms
nelmangala solur 33kms
solur kunigal 43 kms
kunigal nelligere 31kms
nelligere chennarayapatna 40kms
chennarayapatna sravanabelgola 10kms

a must stop for coffee and rava idli is hotel mayura just before chennarayapatna on your left when going towards chennarayapatna.

just after turning towards sravanabelgola the scenery takes a turn for dramatic best and your anticipation of catching the monolithic gomateshwara reaches a feverish pitch with every approaching kilometer.
around 2000 years back chandragupta maurya had traversed thro these very paths to reach the indragiri hill with his guru after renouncing the world.
its a tribute to this very land which promised tranquility to healing souls from ancient times.

sravanabelgola due to its sheer location and history is the ACROPOLIS OF ASIA.
in my travels i have rarely come across a location so strking and stunning.
no wonder that it has a greek touch in form of its architect aristomenes.
an entire epoch in history from 3rd century BC is recorded here.
the chandragiri and vindhyagiri hills face each other. each having numerous basadi or settlement temples. and numerous small monoliths and paintings not as enormous as the reigning deity that is the GOMATESHWARA also known as BAHUBALI.
