Here's a pic of my good friend and Colleague Carl and Myself, that's me sitting on the car.
This was around June 2003, at the time we were working on a gas well for Petronas overseas company.
Insalah the closest town was due north about 1 hour by small Pilatus aircraft.
The temperatures during the day in Mid summer reaches above 60 degrees celsius here, around the time the picture was taken we were experiencing temperatures up to 56 degrees, thats hot!
I spent 8 weeks here straight, as you can see the desert is just flat and hard, as far as you can imagine the view stays the same until you reach the falaise, it is actually an enormous plateau in this region of the sahara.
The only other interesting thing at the time was those silly German and other European tourists, 30 or so of them, who managed to get themselves all kidnapped / carjacked.
Never venture into the sahara in this area without an armed escort, car jackings are rife and Libya is the same. Many smugglers and bandits will gladly relieve you of your landcruiser and take it to Chad or Niger ets where it will be exchanged for Weapons and contraband to be taken back up north.
