The province of Canakkale is at the northwestern tip of Anatolia south of the Sea of Marmara as well as the Gallipoli Peninsula. There is a lot to do and see here, including visiting the museums and sites for the WWI campaign here, ruins of Troy, Assos, and other places, great beaches and wine on the island of Bozcaada, and great local olives and olive oil.

Canakkale City

The City of Canakkale, on the Anatolian side of the Canakkale Bogazi/Dardanelles/Hellespont is the main town and provincial capital. While not a major destination in itself, it certainly is well-located to go through and visit whilst in the area, especially sicne it is the major ferry terminal on the south side of the strait.

A pretty large town, it has plenty of places to eat, a fortress and museum dedicated to military history, including the Gallipoli/Dardanelles/Canakkale campaign of WWI, and even some nice architecture to see. See my tip on the city itself, within the page for this province.
