"Sugarloaf Ridge State Park" Sugarloaf Ridge State Park by WulfstanTraveller

This is a nice state park with camping a great hiking. There is a variety of terrain with some open grassland, oak or mixed woodland, etc. It includes the headwaters of the Sonoma Creek, which flows down to San Pablo Bay. One can hike to the top of Bald Mountain, which is just over 2700 feet and from which one can see St. Helena in Napa County very close by, Mt. St Helena and Cobb Mt. to the north, Mt. Tamalpais, Mt. Diablo, and even San Francisco itself to the south. Pony Gate Creek, a tributary of the Sonoma Creek, has a small cascading waterfall in a thickly forested area that is very attractive and a pleasant place to relax after a long day hiking.

This park is just outside Kenwood, at 2605 Adobe Canyon Road off Highway 12. The closest large town is Santa Rosa, from which one should take Hwy 12 east towards Sonoma and then turn left onto Adobe Canyon Rd. before getting to Kenwood. The park is at the end of the road.
