Getting TO/AROUND: I'll get killed by some and others will agree, it's matter of contention and at least if I moan, and someone listens, it'll just mean that it's a tiny bit quieter for others. Anyway, I think the tube stinks and is a crappy way of rushing about. Yes, it probably is the fastest way besides bicycle, but you see nothing and get no idea of the city except how horrid living here would be. Go by bus, walk, cycle or get a motorbike, but don't bother (unless you really must) use the tube.

Category: Train
Getting TO/AROUND: Trains are to me, the best way of travelling overland over any distance. Not counting motorbikes of course... ;-) I don't like flying and the national coaches are evil things. Usually the trains in the UK aren't much cop either, but they get you there and are the most comfortable way to travel by far. What else can you walk around in and even visit a cafe? The problems here lie in the variety of train companies and the lack of coordination between them- this Xmas they didn't all release the timetables, so booking complete journeys is not possible! Booking ahead saves LOADS- £29 rtn instead of £99 single.

'Mode': AROUND
Category: Bus
Getting TO/AROUND: They may be smelly, cramped and full of loonies, but the buses are THE BEST way of getting around the city of London. Yes, if you want to go a long way quickly, the tube may be faster, but the buses are far more convenient for most areas, surprisingly efficient, cheaper than the tube and most importantly, you are on the surface and can see everything you pass- that's why you travel isn't it? You can still ride in a routemaster also, they are the best of the buses, so that makes them the best of the best. (Except motorbikes...).
