In the 1950s, Tangier, was the place to see and be seen, especially for the gay crowd. As a tax-free haven, and with a well-derved party status, Tangier attracted the international jet setters.
The came Morocco's independence in 1956, which saw the end of Tangier's heyday. Now the city attracts tourists who are lured here by beautiful beaches, superb weather, excellent hotels and reasonable prices. |

lynnehamman Wed Aug 19, 2009 15:05 UTC What an amusing warning tip, Grets. Tangier is high on my wish list. It looks beautiful, especially the beaches. Must have been interesting in the 50's & 60's! | sachara Wed May 25, 2005 10:35 UTC Lovely page of Tangier, Grete ! I was there in the 70s and 80s. Many places and the atmosphere look still the same and are very recognizable ! | freya_heaven Mon May 9, 2005 11:12 UTC We also stayed at the Solazar! It was so cold though, no heating on in January! Nice page Grete (~_~) |
