Damongo is a largish village on the main route to Mole National Park. It doesn’t differ greatly from many other north-western Ghana villages, and doesn’t really hold anything of interest for the tourist. We spent a bit of time walking through the village, checking out the little shops and immerse ourselves in the ambiance of the street life.
One the great things about Domongo, is its relative proximity to smaller, ethnic villages. We visited a couple of these and have detailed the visits on the Off the Beaten Track tips below. |

| Pros: | "Lots of nearby ethnic villages" | | Cons: | "Not a lot to see or do in the village itself" | | In A Nutshell: | "The gateway to rural Ghana and Mole National Park" |

SLLiew Sat Jun 13, 2009 03:46 UTC Thanks for sharing about local village life. Great observations and write ups. Good laugh about being chased out without visiting village chief first. | Trekki Fri Apr 13, 2007 05:45 UTC Very much interesting insight into the small villages, Grete :-)) The kids are adorable, and I really like that car, the kids made :-) | sachara Sat Feb 17, 2007 18:39 UTC Grete, I love it to look at your pages and pictures of these rural villages. In my mind I am back in Ghana of my early visits to the rural areas in the 80s, enjoying the hospitability and learning about the local customs in daily life. | VeronicaG Wed Feb 14, 2007 21:24 UTC What an interesting glimpse into Ghana's culture, Grete! Thank you for the in-depth commentary and great pics...regards from Texas |
