Mysore is known as the city of palaces, and for very good reason. There are 17 palaces here in total, and many public buildings are palatially decorated.

Mysore is also know as the centre for sandalwood manufacture, and all of the city you can detect the sweet aroma of sandalwood.

We were in Mysore as part of a tour covering much of southern India. Our trip was pre-arranged from the UK though a company called Choomti, headed by a charming gentleman called Simon Bazely.

Our trip took us from Trivandrum to Bangalore by train, where we met and car and driver. From there we went to Mysore, Ooty, Madurai and Periyar before boarding a houseboat for a backwaters cruise. The journey continued via Cochin and finished with some time on the beach at Kovalam.

Mysore Palace is probably the most incredible palace I have ever seen on all my travels. It simply is stunning, and a real MUST SEE when in Mysore. All cameras and shoes must be left outside when visiting.

This seems to have been a delightful tour . Great food and a bed of roses, who could ask for more?
