"Greenwich" Greenwich by smschley

Greenwich Travel Guide: 280 reviews and 755 photos

We were sitting in our Chatham flat trying to figure out a new site to visit, (one that didn’t include a 6 hour train ride) when the wife came up with the idea of a trip to Greenwich. My initial thought was huh? What the heck is there besides some sort of watch? Actually I didn’t say it aloud, wanting to stay married. But since the wife suggested it off we went.

Arriving to Greenwich Park was an eye opener. The setting is something out of a movie set. Not only does it house the famous observatory, but two outstanding museums. If this isn’t enough, a short walk takes you to the famous “Cutty Sark” clipper ship. As the wife is prone to tell me, all her ideas are good and in this case she was right.

Superb tip on GMT. Suggest book "Longitude" by Dava Sobel on Harrison's solving the greatest scientific problem of the time-how far East or west you are. My Greenwich trip 1971-wonderful! Doug
