Nightlife Spot: Moulin Rouge
Immortalized by Toulouse-Lautrec, and the birthplace of the can-can, the Moulin Rouge (The Red Windmill) takes its name from one of the windmills of Montmartre present in another era. Situated in the red-light district of Pigalle it is famous for the large red imitation windmill on its roof. For 110 years, the most legendary cabaret in the world has provided its famous show. Dinner dance at 20h, shows at 22h and Midnight daily.

Dress Code: On our first trip to Paris we decided to attend the dinner show. My wife was sure that EVERYONE dressed up so there we went, me in a suit and the wife in a long black gown; long black gloves; pearl necklace and a mink coat. Out of the metro and past the sex shops barkers we walked and entered the building. For a second I thought we were at Denny’s the way people were dressed. The look on my wife’s face was priceless as she looked at all the slobs. Off went the fur, the gloves and the necklace as she muttered something in Russian that thankfully no one understood. The show was ok, but I can honestly say that the show in Las Vegas is superior.
Address: Place Blanche, 18th arrondissement

barryg23 Mon Dec 4, 2006 20:14 UTC Very comprehensive tips on Paris. You know the history of the city very well. I thought the Sewer Museum was interesting though probably because I had just read Les Miserables which features a long escape scene through the Paris sewers. | codrutz Sat Jun 3, 2006 07:34 UTC Great documented tips. What is the secret with your photos? Polarizer? Positive film? Or? :) Very curious.. | mapakettle Sun Apr 2, 2006 07:59 UTC You have to learn to leave your furs at home. LOL. Great pages. Ma Kettle and I are going to Paris in June. Thanks for the advance peek. Pa | Marisola Tue Dec 27, 2005 00:42 UTC Love your pics on Rodin and Pere Lachaise! Two of my favorite places in Paris! Happy travels 2006! |
